What is Equality?

What is Equality?

At WestKing, we work together to ensure that that every student at the college has an equal opportunity to make the most of their studies, skills and talents.

We firmly believe that no one should have poorer chances in life because of their age, background, ethnicity, sex and gender, sexual preference,  they were born, where they come from, what they believe, or whether they have a disability.

We recognise that in the past certain groups of people with protected characteristics such as race, disability, sex and sexual orientation have experienced discrimination.

In some ways Equality means treating students the same. Equity means giving students what they need to ensure everyone has an equal change of succeeding.

Discrimination - treating people differently or badly because of their age, race, gender reassignment, sexual preference or other protected characteristic is discrimination. Please read this website to understand how discrimination affects different people. There will be questions on this in your self-study Module. It is also useful to know this information for the future.

At Westking, we offer support and make slight changes to your classes so everyone can access the educational opportunities offered by the college.
